Karen Traditional Cloth Weaving and Dyeing has their own style for more than a hundred years.
COERR considered this tradition should be transferred to the younger generations. Therefore COERR organized the project to produce Karen clothes starting from dyeing thread to have colorful decoration and design, using natural materials. The project was organized on June 18, 2019 with 50 participants of 40 female and 10 male. This activity enabled them to learn and preserve the community tradition which could create various kinds of products. It was necessary to convince the young refugees to see the value of this traditional wisdom and skills.
On June 20, 2019, COERR organized the cloth bag dyeing as an income generation activity in Nupo camp for 50 refugees of 33 female and 17 male participants. Cloth bag is an eco-friendly choice to replace plastic bag as it is reusable and washable. It helps us to reduce the use of plastic bag. Children and youth were encouraged to spend their leisure in this livelihood activity that was a small effort to save the world from problems with too much waste.
